I already have pictures posted on my blog and with Vox it is VERY simple to add them, but I'm "just not that into" Flicker, Picasa or other online photo sharing communities. I have slipped out of photography since my camera has become dated and my rechargeable batteries are become less charged with each use. I do post photos for friends on Facebook and enjoy checking out what they have; but feel that I don't have many "worthy" of the perusal by complete strangers. Below is another photo for your enjoyment of a film I saw in late January and really enjoyed. I rarely say this, but I hope I enjoy the book as much as the movie when I get around to reading it. I just may have shed a tear or two ;)
You may see some of my own work if I keep saving like I am for a Canon I saw at an excellent price (at Costco nonethelesss) with the capabilities I'd like to have...one day I tell ya and hopefully before my Princeton trip in April too!
I had a good time playing with the new web stuff introduced though week 6's activities, but my ultimate fav is the "geek test." I took it years ago and scored as a total geek or someting along those lines. You may want to try it out for yourself and see just how nerdy you really are... http://www.innergeek.us/geek.html
You can play the game and you can act out the part
Though you know it wasn't written for you
But tell me, how can you stand there with your broken heart
Ashamed of playing the fool
One thing can lead to another; it doesn't take any sacrifice
Oh, father and mother, and sister and brother
if it feels nice, don't think twice (yes)
Shower the people you love with love
Show them the way that you feel
Things are gonna be just fine if you only will(do as i say, yeah)
Shower the people you love with love
Show them the way that you feel
Things are gonna be much better if you only will
You can run but you cannot hide
This is widely known
And what you plan to do with your foolish pride
When you're all by yourself alone
Once you tell somebody the way that you feel
You can feel it beginning to ease
I think it's true what they say about the squeaky wheel
Always getting the grease.
Better to shower the people you love with love
(Yes and) show them the way that you feel
(I know) Things are gonna be just fine if you only will
(what i'd like to do to you)
Shower the people you love with love
Show them the way you feel
Things are gonna be much better if you only will
Shower the people you love with love
Show them the way that you feel
They say in every life
They say the rain must fall
Just like the pouring rain
Make it rain
Make it rain
Love, love, love is sunshine oh
Make it rain
Love, love, love is sunshine yeah
Everybody, everybody, everybody, everybody
Here's the back story...
My position at HPL is not my only job. I am also employed by a Presbyterian church in Hamilton doing child and youth stuffs and serve on some committees in this capacity as well. One is for the Summer Experience program that provides youth leadership development, travel experiences and community building. I did this program when I was a girl of 18 and served as a staff member during one of my summers off from Waterloo. I really believe in the program and what it offers teens, young adults and churches alike.
With this said, I created a Wiki for our committee to better communicate since emailing one another was getting out of control (which was delightfully illustrated in the "Plain English" YouTube video). In the beginning we were all very keen on using this new web tool and enjoyed setting up headings, links and the discussion topics. Then the apathy set in and nothing else happened. With Wikis you don't get the immediate response that an email provides and the dialogue begins to feel very one sided. I agree they can be an excellent tool, you just need to be employing it with likeminded "web-ish" people.
I see Wikis as an amazing tool for the library, especially for children's programing at HPL. Every branch has a rich heritage of programs, story time classics, SRC moments and we have no idea what is happening beyond our own branch's walls. I would love to see a program bank with details on supplies, costs, outside resources, time savers and more to keep our well-oiled machine running smoothly or better even. I found one like this on the Library Success wiki @ http://support.midhudson.org/ezprogram/ezprogram.htm and plan to use it the next time I need a program idea in a pinch. I'm already excited about the T-Shirt program using the book "Generation T" and may even do it with my girlfriends some Saturday night.
I enjoy going into my favourites and hunting for the blogs I love to read and seeing what goodies are in store. Since I set up my Bloglines account two weeks ago I have forgotten to check it and see what updates are available. This could be scary...let's check and see. Before we do, here are some of the spots I've "RSSed."
http://blogs.ala.org/yalsa.php - Great young adult stuff
http://www.nytimes.com/pages/books/index.html?partner=rssnyt - Read with a dictionary...numerous $10 words
http://www.boingboing.net/ - Techy and strange stuff for the geek in all of us
Upon logging in I've been notified that I have 200 posts to catch up on for both Wired and Boing Boing....I'm thinking those will take me some time to get through. I also have 14 YALSA posts and 48 New York Times Books pieces to read as well. Not to mention the links for my usual haunts that I have naturally been reading on my own.
I guess this is the point when I make some sort of resolution to check my Bloglines daily and use it to connect to all my favourite blogs being 2.0 savvy. Perhaps...
